What it's like

Georgetown is Federal and Victorian rowhouses on brick sidewalks, with cobblestone side streets running down toward M Street and the river. The C&O Canal runs through the middle, with a shaded towpath a block from the shops. Wisconsin Avenue has bakeries, boutiques and old taverns, and the waterfront looks out on the Potomac, the Key Bridge and the Kennedy Center. Many of the old warehouse buildings near the water are now restaurants and wine bars.

Getting around

Georgetown has no Metro station of its own. Foggy Bottom-GWU is roughly a 20-minute walk east, and Rosslyn is about 15 minutes across the Key Bridge. Metrobus runs along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, Capital Bikeshare docks are scattered throughout, and the Capital Crescent Trail starts at the waterfront. At rush hour, Farragut Square is about 20 to 25 minutes away by bus or Metro, and the Pentagon is roughly 25 to 30 minutes via Rosslyn on the Blue Line.
