What it's like

Adams Morgan grows out of the corner of 18th Street and Columbia Road, where rowhouses with painted storefronts hold restaurants from around the world, small cafes and bars that stay busy late. A block or two off the main strips, Lanier Heights, Kalorama Road and the streets near Meridian Hill Park are quieter, lined with rowhouses and older apartment buildings. Kalorama Park sits at the south end of Columbia Road, Meridian Hill Park's terraced fountain is a few minutes east, and Rock Creek Park is just across Adams Mill Road to the west.

Getting around

Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan (Red) is about a 10 to 15 minute walk west across the Duke Ellington Bridge on Calvert Street, Columbia Heights (Green/Yellow) is about 15 minutes east on foot, and Dupont Circle (Red) is roughly 15 to 20 minutes south. Buses run along 16th Street, Columbia Road and 18th Street, and Capital Bikeshare docks are spread through the neighborhood. At rush hour, Farragut North is about 10 minutes by Red Line from Woodley Park, and a bus down 16th Street reaches downtown in about 15 to 20 minutes.
